Foreigners were net sellers of South African shares for a second day Thursday, with outflows of R565 million.
In early trade the rand was at R15.05 versus the dollar, 0.7% weaker than its previous close.
In afternoon trade the rand was at R14.82 versus the dollar, 0.5% stronger on the day.
The South African Reserve Bank has kept the repo rate unchanged at 3.5%
Elsewhere, crude oil edged higher and gold traded at around $1,850 an ounce.
